Kawagoe, nick named "Little Edo"
Kawagoe has been loved by Japanese people being called "Koedo", which means little Edo. Edo is the old name of Tokyo.
It takes less than an hour from Tokyo by train.
You can see the old storehouses and merchant houses lining along the streets, and the Toki-no-kane (Bell Tower) rings to tell the time. When you take a stroll through the town in kimono, you'll feel as if you traveled back in time to ancient Edo.
In Kawagoe, you can experience the traditional and pure Japan which you can't see in Tokyo. There are many shops that offer traditional Japanese souvenirs, sweets and street foods.
Kawagoe is also known as a quality soy sauce producer. It's worth visiting the old soy sauce brewery to learn how they produce such high quality soy sauce because they are one of the few breweries in Japan that has kept the old way for many years. That's why there are so many ramen shops in Kawagoe. If you are a ramen lover, don't miss the soy sauce-vased ramen here!
