Kamakura, the plce where the first Shogunate opened

When it comes to Excursion from Tokyo, I first think of Kamakura.

Kamakura is a coastal town in Kanagawa Prefecture, less than an hour south of Tokyo. The town became the political center of Japan, when Minamotono- Yoritomo was appointed as Shogun  by Emperor Komyo and chose Kamakura  as the seat of his government in the late 12th century. Kamakura gonernment continued to rule Japan for over a century, first under the Minamoto shogun and then under the Hojo family as regents.

Today, Kamakura is  a very popular tourist destination. Sometimes called the Small Kyoto of Eastern Japan, Kamakura has many historic temples  and shrines deeply related to Minatmoto and Hojo clan. In addition, Kamakura's beaches attract many surfers throughout year.
